On July 5, 1998 Hong Kong-based Dragon Air's Flight HDA841 from Chongqing, China, was the last to land at 1538Z. The last commercial flight to leave Hong Kong's old Kai Tak Airport was the CPA251 flight to London Heathrow Airport.

The plane left at midnight local time (1602Z) and was piloted by Captain Kim Sharman, a 21-year veteran who was retiring after the flight. The new airport was officially opened on 6 July 1998; and in a testament to logistical planning, all the essential airport supplies and vehicles that were left in the old airport for operation were transported to Chek Lap Kok in one early morning with a single massive move. Sezon On July 6, 1998 at 1:17 am local time (1717Z), Director of Civil Aviation, Mr. R A Siegel on the light-out ceremony: 'It will always be special in our hearts, not only here in Hong Kong but also to many people around the world. Kai Tak has truly been one of the world's great airports but tonight we must say good bye to our old friend. The last passenger has arrived, the last flight has departed, the runway is silent and it is now time to turn off the lights which have safely guided thousands of arriving aircraft.

Goodbye Kai Tak and thank you.' After the last plane, a Cathay Pacific A340, took off from Kai Tak at 1:28 am. Kai Tak was subsequently closed, transferring its ICAO and IATA airport codes to the replacement airport at Chek Lap Kok. Kennedy International Airport, USA, non-stop and flying over the North Pole. This flight was named Polar One.

How about the Norwegian airport pack, about 50 detailed airports all around Norway, an absolute must have IMHOAlso the complete VOZ package, not all the airports are equally fine detailed but some are just great, certainly in combination with all the rest of the scenery for OZ. Tierra del Fuego, VRF scenery + SAWH and SAWO made by Daniel Rodriguez Careri, top notch. For South Africa, the complete AEROWORX package. In New Zealand, every single package made by Lawrie Roache. (tons of airports, all equally nice). All of the CANUK-group airports Also the airports made by or for the Flight Ontario sceneryHolger Sandeman's Glacier bay, both VFR scenery and accompanying airports (like PAJN.)Holger's Columbia river Gorge projectToo many to name airports, most in the Former USSR posted on Avism.RU (UGEE, URSS, UHMM, ULLI, UMMS, UGTB, UAAA. Etc.FISD, for finland, every single one of them.Balice scenery including EPKKTATRA mountains, Tegucigalpa made by Boris forero.Everything else made by Boris Forero. Most Israeli scenery and airports, certainly LLBG made by David Rosenfeld& friends..I could be here and name at least another 100 that are more than on par with most payware packages. I agree with everyone - all great freeware.

Even FS9 freeware addons make some attempt at realism there. Import my FS9 AI traffic programme into XP11, but as I can't, this is the best. Ceramic 3d torrent.

Only one I can think to add to the above list for USA is Meigs Field KCGX by FlysceneryAn incredible photo-real package which includes the entire Canary Islands and GCLA La Palma by Canary SimOne suggestion for finding great freeware airports - check Oliver Pabst's list of supported freeware airports in AES. He only picks some of the very best. Not ALL the best - there are many great ones he hasn't done.

But whatever he does pick, you can be sure is excellent qualityAlso, check out the BluePrint Sim website. They are a payware company but they offer two excellent airports as freeware. TBPB Barbados and TJSJ San Juan Puerto Rica. Good sceneries with great FPSFor New Zealand, there are several excellent ones other than the Lawrie Roach airports mentioned. (Some of his earlier stuff is not so good but the newer ones are excellent)I don't remember the authors but look for NZMC Mount Cook, NZQN Queenstown both by the same person, and NZNS Nelson.
